welcome class !

ready to take notes? good. put down the paper airplane...
now, if we are ready,we are going to learn how to make some really neat rainbow graphics. first we have to go find some rainbows.

here's one we can use.
http://spiritbones.org/meow/rbspin.gif

and make it REALLY big like this

That should work for starters. We'll also need a blank for annotating or compositing on. Here is one the same size as the big rainbow above. I know you can't see it but it IS there. http://spiritbones.org/banners/purpletoo.gif
now all we need is an image to work with. let's find our guinea pig.
Oh good! We have one right here.
http://spiritbones.org/anim2/OGP/ogp.gif his name is ogp

now grab your rainbow and come with us to I M Image Magick

Oh, yes, my assistant (our guinea pig) just told me that you won't be able to continue the lesson if you don't stay with us here. first take him to Gifworks and

A) crop off the letters, then
B) smart crop him to remove the excess , and
C)put him in YOUR files, then
D) take him to I M and transparify the white background(paint with matte floodfill on the white bg.), and
E) save back to files.
now F) take the blank above to I M , then G) composite the new ogp (let's call him ogp2)
to the blank in the center. and you get something like this.

(we'll call this ogp3)
then H) bring the big rainbow you made (you did make it, didn't you? you aren't cheating, are you? eyes on your own papers![ if you didn't,
I) resize the small rainbow at either gifworks or I M to 400 by 175.{ogp says"gifworks is easier"}])...
Now, Where was I? Oh, yes. Thank you OGP. ... Big rainbow to I M and
J ) composite it with an offset of +100+0 gravity of N.W. with the optional compose type IN (not over or OGP will get buried) now you will have...

THIS.

WHOA!

KIDS:DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME-IT WILL NOT WASH OUT!
we lost ogp under the rainbow! now let's see, if we back up(to ogp3){step G} and
K)remove both the black and tan (not the white or tiny bit of grey by his ears) and
L) composite the big rainbow, with the same offset as in step J[+100,+0], IN that,
and M) save that(ogp4).

now, N) bring back ogp3 and
O) composite ogp4 OVER it, centered, and the result,
after P) we go to F/X and put a parameter of 1, morph (this adds a frame that goes between each of the 8 frames it has so it doesn't look choppy- it does if you don't morph )... parameter of 1, morph, right, ogp? now you will get one very cool

OGP

WOW!

now, wasn't that fun? please remember that a lot of people like to make things at both of these places, too, so sometimes it can go verrry slooowly. make sure you save EVERY PART you will need later, and take your time.

AFTER this, you may want to play around with other effects like; colorshift, invert, resize, crop, flip, flop, & fly...wait, that's not there, that's DHTML, but that is another lesson.

O.K., don't forget:come back for RAINBOWS 102:rainbow text.
